In the fickle world of Hollywood, few stars, if any, could match Cruise for staying on top so long. He started as a teen idol in the early 1980s. In "The Outsiders" he was a beer-for-breakfast gang member. Still, his character showed signs of growing up. As he tells fellow baddie Emilio Estevez in the movie, "You have to wear clothes to work. There's a law or something."
