Disaster Movies

Hollywood Loves a Disaster

Writer-producer Irwin Allen became synonymous with '70s-era disaster films, following "Poseidon" with "The Towering Inferno" and then with his killer bee saga, "The Swarm." Popular as they are, disaster films run a risk of turning off the public if a similar real-life disaster strikes before the film's release. This was especially true after Sept. 11, when a number of air disaster films were delayed or taken out of production.
