While never winning an Oscar, Cruise earned Best Actor nominations for "Born on the Fourth of July" and "Jerry Maguire," as well as a supporting nod for "Magnolia," where he played a quasi-cult leader of a women-bashing men's group. While it might be Cruise's most unsavory character, he showed range and vulnerability as his Frank Mackey is shattered by the death of his father. The actor even chimes in on an Aimee Mann song, singing "It's not going to stop / It's not going to stop / Till you wise up."
