More than 9,000 people have already signed up on her Eatabook.com Web site. And a large number of them are calling on Jill to sink her teeth into Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace — which would assure her 1,456 pages of dining pleasure, assuming that she feasts on the Random House edition.

"You have to wonder about people," she says. "They never suggest you eat a light novella."

Jill says she's devoted her life to literacy and if she can reach more people by turning to the theater of the absurd, she'll gladly eat her words — or those of any other author — in public.
