Unfortunately, the dog died before Nixon became president.

Clinton Fesses Up to Sleeping With Dog

As the Clinton administration careened from scandal to scandal, the president turned to his faithful Lab Buddy for support — and a photo op.

Late in Clinton's second term, with Clinton's sex life in the news and his wife Hillary on the campaign trail, he even kidded with reporters that he had a new bed partner.

"I've got a friend," Clinton told White House reporters. "He sleeps with me when Hillary's not here. He's my true friend. We have a great time."

Buddy got special treatment when Clinton left office. While Clinton's cat, Socks, was handed off to his secretary, Betty Currie, Buddy got to romp on the former First Couple's $1.7 million estate in Chappaqua, N.Y.

Unfortunately, several months ago, Buddy was stuck and killed while chasing a car in what the former president described as "by far the worst thing" to happen to him since he left office.

But Clinton contacted a Maryland breeder and ended up with one of Buddy's great-nephews. The new pup is named him Seamus, the Gaelic form of James. The two reportedly are very happy together.

Will Percy ever become a big dog in politics? The jury's still out. His master/campaign manager Genthner says he'll send shudders through the political system. "That's the sort of pet therapy both parties need."
